2011-2012 Season Opener
Firebird
Ballet Tucson's 2011-2012 season opens with a collection of three diverse ballets. Mark Schneider's futuristic version of Firebird explores the final conflict and consequential holocaust between machine and mankind. Set against Stravinsky's powerful score, the Firebird represents the birth of a new species, much like the phoenix rising out of the nuclear ash.
Ascending
Founding Artistic Director Mary Beth Cabana and Assistant Artistic Director Chieko Imada collaborate on the premiere of Ascending. This new work celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the bonds that tie us together in the journey through life and beyond. Diverse music, dance styles, and costuming add to the thought provoking imagery of this transformative ballet.
Don Quixote Suite
Artistic Associates Amanda McKerrow and John Gardner offer the Ballet Tucson premiere of Don Quixote Suite. This one-act adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes' popular novel showcases the celebratory wedding scene of Kitri and Basilio, providing exciting dancing opportunities throughout the ranks of Ballet Tucson. The romantic and light-hearted comedy comes to life with a lively cast of characters and some of classical ballet's most bravura dancing.
