The Ballet Tucson Annual Summer Dance Workshop in cooperation with the University of Arizona School of Dance was established in 1986 to provide the serious dance student the opportunity to train and perform in a professional environment.Housed in the UA dance facility, the intensive workshop offers training for all levels. Curriculum includes intermediate and advanced level of study of ballet technique, pointe, jazz,and modern dance. Special classes are offered in tap, Russian character dance, stage make-up, classical variations, conditioning,and choreography. Elementary workshops and adult classes are also available and are held at Ballet Arts Studios on Tucson Boulevard.The faculty consists of Ballet Tucson’s outstanding artistic staff and professional dancers. In addition, master teachers are brought in from prestigious companies and schools to offer students the exposure to broaden the scope of their dance education.A final performance will be presented at the close of the workshop at the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. Students who have attended the entire workshop have the opportunity to perform original choreography and classical repertoire. This year’s workshop performance will take place on Saturday, June 26 at 3:30 pm.
Workshop Information
The University of Arizona School of Dance is located in the Ina Gittings Building at the northwest corner of Campbell Avenue and University Boulevard on the UA campus. Ballet Arts Studios are located at 200 S. Tucson Boulevard, just south of Broadway, on the west side of the street. All new intermediate, advanced or pre-professional students must audition for final placement in May 2010 at Ina Gittings. Placement for technique and pointe is determined solely by the Artistic Director and staff. Classes are held Monday through Saturday. The final workshop performance will take place on Saturday, June 26 at 3:30 pm. This performance features all elementary, intermediate, and advanced students who have attended the entire workshop.
